TOLEDO, Ohio — This morning, the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s was held at Promenade Park in downtown Toledo.

The goal of the walk is to raise awareness regarding Alzheimer’s, while also raising money, in the hopes of finding a cure for both Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Many who attended today’s walk say they have a reason to show up year after year.

“This is my first year,” said Lori Amison. “I’m here because I lost a couple of family members to Alzheimer’s.”

“We came out today to support our friends and all of our loved ones who suffer and have suffered with Alzheimer’s,” said Terri Hamad.

While this event raises money, which is crucial to Alzheimer’s research, it also raises awareness, which is just as important.

“I think it’s important to raise awareness about our battle against Alzheimer’s disease and I don’t think there’s a better event that does that,” said Larry Mccoi.

For those who are a part of the Alzheimer’s community, it’s good to know there are so many people going through the same thing and support one another.

“I think that a lot of times people don’t realize how this can affect people. So to come out and see the support that the Alzheimer’s community has is really nice,” said Kelsey Lacer.

As for ways you can support the cause if you couldn’t make it out to today’s walk, all the attendees I spoke to say simply donate to your local Alzheimer’s chapter.

Attendee Larry Mccoi says he’ll be back next year, and the year after that.

“I come every year; It’s an annual thing for me. I enjoy it: connecting with other people. It’s something I look forward to,” Mccoi added.

Everyone says they’re just glad to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause in-person.
