TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo’s American Cultural Exchange Service says they’re in need of 8 American Cultural Exchange Students by August 31st or, according to an email from Valerie Virag, Regional Director and Local Coordinator of the American Cultural Exchange Service, they will not be able to come.

Most of their students are sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. They will get very involved in volunteering their time to programs that make a difference in our communities. They can then bring that information back to their countries to establish similar programs to help their communities serve others.

The service is seeking families that have an extra bed, their students can share a bedroom with another child near their age, loves kids, and can afford to feed another mouth. ACES students are medically insured, speak English, get good grades and have their own money for personal items and outings with their friends.

To host a student, families need to fill out a hosting application, give 2 references, complete an online criminal background check and invite the local coordinator to their home to answer questions and take required photos of the home for the State Dept. General areas include home, kitchen, living room, students’ bedroom, bathroom and pets. They can select their own student and once their vetting process is completed, they can start communicating with their global child.

The ACES has openings in TPS, Rossford, Oregon Clay, Lake and Sylvania schools. Virag can be reached at 419-466-7074 or by email at valviragsiec@aol.com.
