TOLEDO, Ohio — 61-year-old Daniel Torres was shot and killed while in his south Toledo home back in April. And still, no one has been held accountable for his murder

“My dad was at his nephew’s house asleep on the recliner and they came and did a drive-by, but it really wasn’t a drive-by. They got out of the car and shot the house up 58 times,” his daughter Danella Torres recounts.

As upsetting as it is, Torres has found it in her heart to consider the circumstances of the individuals responsible.

“I feel like people do have a conscience, you know. And I’m like: do I want to see somebody’s son spend the rest of their life in prison? No. I want them to have remorse,” she added.

Danella believes the programs happening in our city this summer are great for the youth, but it ultimately is up to parents to ensure their kids are off the streets.

“The parents. Parent involvement: keeping them off the streets, keeping them in sports, you know, parents- they just wanna be selfish and do what they wanna do for their self,” she insisted.

The memories she has of her father are endless. She remembers him as being a church-going, grandkid-loving, all-around happy man.

“He was friendly, he was a people person. He knew everybody: the whole neighborhood, people at the stores. The lady at the funeral home said ‘I know your dad,’ Torres recalled.
