TOLEDO, Ohio — An armed domestic violence suspect has been shot and killed after pointing a firearm at Toledo Police officers just after midnight on December 5, 2020.

At approximately 12:33 a.m., the female victim placed an emergency call to 911, whispering and crying while speaking to the operator. Over the course of a more than 8-minute 911 call, the victim stated that she was involved in a domestic situation with her child’s father and had locked herself in the bathroom. The victim said that the suspect was intoxicated, had caused injury to her head, and continued to threaten her.

4 Toledo Police officers arrived to the victim’s location at 630 Leach at approximately 12:51 a.m. The officers could hear the suspect yelling at the victim as they knocked on the door. The officers instructed the suspect to open the door. From outside, the officers could hear the suspect continue to make homicidal and suicidal statements.

Fearing for the woman’s safety, officers forced entry into the location and announced themselves as police officers. The suspect came down the stairs making suicidal statements while holding a gun and pointing it at officers. At least one officer fired at the suspect, ending the threat. Officers checked the safety of the victim, then began CPR on the suspect. Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Personnel were already on scene and staged due to the victim’s statements. TFRD was called inside the house to render medical aid to both the victim and suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene.

Chief Kral will hold a news conference on Monday, time and location to be determined. At the time of the news conference, the 911 call, the Body-Worn Camera (BWC) footage, and additional information will be made available.
