TOLEDO, Ohio — The 2021 Art on the Mall event was held Sunday at the University of Toledo’s Center for Alumni and Donor Engagement in West Toledo.

Held annually, except for in 2020 due to the pandemic, the event features a variety of local and national artists. Although it’s a free event, plenty of pieces were up for sale during today’s event. One artist I spoke to says art festivals like these are a crucial aspect of their business.

“Mostly, interacting with the clients and seeing what types of pieces they gravitate toward, and, you know, maybe learning along the way. Like, what styles people prefer,” says Kristin Perkins, Owner of Kristin Perkins Glass Jewelry.

Perkins adds that throughout the pandemic, she relied heavily on digital orders and her current clientele.

“I was able to attract them to my website and I worked really hard on my website prior to the pandemic, so, it was all ready to go,” she said.

The event will return next year at its original location on the University of Toledo campus.
