Biden announces 2024 reelection bid; Trump-Biden rematch now possible
The news is receiving mixed reviews.
TOLEDO, Ohio — President Joe Biden announced through a video message at six this morning that he’s seeking a second term in the Oval Office, with Vice President Kamala Harris at his side, even at a time when many in his own party rather he not at his age.
“Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There’s nothing more important, nothing more sacred — that’s been the work of my first term,” Biden said.
Over the course of the three-minute video, President Biden talked of extremism, attacks on Social Security, book bans, efforts to cut taxes on the “very wealthy,” and abortion and voting rights.
“The question we’re facing is whether in the years ahead, we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer — I know what I want the answer to be — and I think you do, too.”
And there’s a familiar line the president used, one that has a little something to do with the “soul of America.”
“I said we’re gonna battle for the soul of America — and we still are.”
And despite whether you view this as good news or headache-inducing news, a rematch of 2020 is now possible, as former President Donald Trump announced his 2024 campaign back in November. So buckle in folks, because boy oh boy do we have a long way to go.
