City celebrates Secor Senior Lofts, affordable housing, with groundbreaking
The city invested a significant amount of money into the project, located at a site that has been the center of contentious debate.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz celebrated the groundbreaking of Secor Senior Lofts, an affordable senior housing development, located at 3837 Secor Rd., during a ceremony this morning.
The city of Toledo is investing $700,000 of federal HOME funding and a tax abatement for the project, which will create 58 needed senior affordable apartments, 40 one-bedroom units, and 18 two-bedroom units.
As a result of the city’s $700,000 HOME funding investment for the acquisition and site improvements, the project has five HOME-assisted units, three one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units, that will be rented to tenants earning less than 70 percent AMI for 20 years.
The property will have on-site management, access to supportive services, a community room with kitchenette, a computer room, a fitness room, a picnic area and shelter, and a community garden.
“This is a wonderful use for this property, which will provide badly-needed housing for members of our community,” Mayor Kapszukiewicz said. “I am thrilled to see this property used for the correct purpose, and that it will fit seamlessly into this West Toledo neighborhood.”
The mayor was joined by Pete Schwiegeraht, Senior Vice Pres. of Development, Midwest Region, MVAH Partners, and James C. Cetovich, Vice Pres. and Project Executive of Ruscilli Construction Co. Inc., for the groundbreaking.
