TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo’s mayor says he is following through with a promise he made to taxpayers. This morning, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced a brand new patch and seal road repair program as part of the Toledo roads initiative, which aims to repair 109 residential streets by the end of the year.

The city is utilizing a newer process to repair roads. While some streets may need a complete overhaul, others simply need cracks filled and a new surface, and that’s where this newest process comes into play.

“Any community where it rains and snows as much as it does north of the Mason-Dixon line is gonna have a problem with potholes,” said Mayor Kapszukiewicz. “There’s also other things we can do to prevent water from entering the pavement, which is the number one thing that causes a pothole.”

The mayor emphasizes that this newer method of repairing roads isn’t an alternative to reconstructing and resurfacing roads, although it does save thousands of dollars and allow for the city to tackle more streets per year. It is also estimated that this process extends the life of a street by 5–7 years.
