City of Toledo to host community conversation on gun violence
The meeting will be held next week.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo is once again encouraging those most affected by gun violence to speak up, and out, about the issue, as well as provide potential solutions to address it.
The city will be hosting a community conversation on gun violence, Monday, December 13 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the Mott Branch Library, but you can also attend via Zoom, through a link that’s posted now at toledo.oh.gov/events.
The Save Our Community coalition is seeking community involvement to create a committee for residents of the Junction-Englewood neighborhood. The coalition says word of mouth promotion is the best way to involve the community, which has been plagued by gun violence.
Last month, I spoke with JoJuan Armour, commissioner of the Mayor’s Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence, who says there’s still so much work to be done, but that we have made progress as a city.
“We are still in those infancy stages of developing our process to address the overall picture of gun violence. We have a number of things that we can hang our hats on and a number of things that I’m extremely proud of, but at the end of the day, the goal is to reduce homicides. I think once we identify some consistency and sustainability in some of our programs, it’ll be able to have more of a long-lasting effect,” said JoJuan Armour, commissioner of the Mayor’s Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence.
