City of Toledo to put-on “23rd Annual Homeless Luncheon”
There are some changes to this year’s luncheon due to the pandemic.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods will hold its annual Thanksgiving luncheon for the homeless and under-housed, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday. Nov. 19 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Banquet Hall, on 740 North Superior St.
The luncheon is an annual event that provides a traditional Thanksgiving-style dinner for individuals who are homeless and the less fortunate throughout the city. It is provided jointly by the City of Toledo Department of Neighborhoods, local retail stores, the business sector, homeless service providers, food banks, and food kitchens. Additionally, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral has donated use of the space and provided volunteers to assist with the luncheon.
The meals will be presented as a “Grab and Go” for the participants to enjoy because of the pandemic. Care packs will be distributed to the participants. There will be no on-site social services, free haircuts, or manicures that were offered last year.
“Toledo has always been a compassionate city and through the challenges of 2020, we continue to be a compassionate city,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said. “This event, for more than two decades, has highlighted how dedicated city employees are to helping those who are less fortunate.”
All participants will be required to wear a mask to enter the banquet hall.
