Committee outlines plans for this year’s African American Festival & Parade
The festival is broken into two parts this year!
TOLEDO, Ohio — This year’s African American Festival and Parade is set to take place on two separate weekends: one in July and another in August. During a press conference Tuesday, festival committee members outlined what attendees can expect.
Festivities kickoff on Friday, July 15th, with a community-wide Prayer Breakfast at the Glass City Metropark pavilion. The festival’s parade will follow on Saturday, July 16th, starting at the corner of Dorr & Detroit and ending in Nelson Grace Park. It’ll be a fun-filled day of activities, food, entertainment, and fellowship.
“When you pull around that corner, at about 7 o’clock in the morning, the kids are here and they’re playing music and they’re excited — and they cannot wait until 10 o’clock,” said Suzette Cowell, founder and CEO of Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union.
The music festival will be a one-day event on August 6th. Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union will sponsor that event as a part of their 26th anniversary. The main stage will feature performances from artists of various genres, along with food vendors and community resources.
“We wanna bring some more interaction with our community. It is so important, because that’s why we’re here, our community with their continuous support of us,” Cowell added.
