Community gun violence meeting held in chambers of Toledo City Council
The meeting did get tense at times.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Tonight, a community conversation on gun violence was held within the chambers of Toledo City Council. Turnout for the meeting wasn’t as high as some would have wanted, but many at the meeting blame a lack of advertising.
Those who did attend were passionate about the community and most importantly — the kids. They say members of city council, and Toledo Police, have fallen short in communicating with both the kids and Black community.
That includes local activist Montrice Casey, who expressed to Chief George Kral just how disappointed he is in the police department’s efforts to reduce gun violence, as well as their lack of responsiveness to gun violence reduction proposals.
Others who attended the meeting say we, as a community, must me the kids where they’re at. That would be out in the neighborhoods, the schools, and could also mean expanding programming in neighborhoods most impacted by gun violence.
