TOLEDO, Ohio — The FDA now says it is safe to mix and match booster shots, meaning that, for example, if you got the Johnson & Johnson one-shot COVID vaccine, it is fine to get the Pfizer booster shot instead of just getting Johnson & Johnson’s.

Health officials say this announcement will allow for flexibility when it comes to scheduling booster shot appointments, making it easier for Americans to get their boosters.

As or right now, if you received your final vaccine dose 6 months ago, you are eligible for Pfizer’s COVID-19 booster. You must also be 65 or older, 18 or older with an underlying health condition, such as cancer, diabetes, lung disease etc., work in a high-risk setting, like public safety, grocery, or public transit workers. Finally, you must live in a high-risk setting, such as a nursing home.
