TOLEDO, Ohio — The death toll in a Surfside, Florida condo collapse has risen to 94, with 83 of those victims having been identified and 22 still unaccounted for.

Officials say it could be weeks before work on the site can wrap and closure can be delivered to families of the victims. I caught up with Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett, who tells me his community appreciates the outpouring of support, both financially and emotionally.

“The love and the respect you have shared with us — it’s unprecedented and it’s a stark demonstration of the American spirit and it makes me proud to be an American,” Burkett said.

Burkett adds that first responders have been compassionate in their recovery efforts, acknowledging that this is a difficult time for families of those who perished in the collapse. To financially support families of the victims, visit supportsurfside.com.
