Despite muggy temps, ‘Lunch at Levis’ brings out large crowd
There are plenty more events coming this summer!
TOLEDO, Ohio — Despite what has been a warm and muggy couple weeks in Northwest Ohio, the ‘Lunch at Levis’ crowd seemed unfazed — keeping cool with the help of a downtown breeze.
“Just stayin’ in the shade, kind of like where we are now. It’s usually a pretty good breeze in between the buildings,” said Alec Frye, who has enjoyed coming out to the event the last few weeks.
“It’s always windy down here, so the breeze definitely helps,” confirmed Barbara Lane, who works in downtown Toledo.
Every Thursday at Levis Square in downtown Toledo, a local musician performs from 11:30 to 1:30, as local food trucks wrangle the afternoon lunch crowd. The event has been put on for the last 17 years and runs through the summer. For those who spend a lot of time downtown, it’s a staple.
Frye, who works in close proximity to the park, just happened to find out about the concert series while roaming downtown — and has continued to come back since.
“This is a good thing to do. They also have, I think, a fountain concert series on Tuesdays — so that’s always good to check out, too,” he added.
“[It] takes your mind off of work, it takes your mind off things — just for those few moments of eating and listening,” explained DeeAnn Kelly Taylor.
“I just like seeing all the people out here and people enjoying themselves,” Carol Ann Allen put simply.
The two friends say, by far, the most significant aspect of this concert series is seeing downtown Toledo’s transformation. No longer is it just a place where people come to work, rather one where community comes first.
“Absolutely fantastic and working downtown now, with so many things going on, is fabulous,” Allen added. “They did an excellent job, over here, fixing this up.”
