Gov. DeWine to address the state on rising coronavirus cases
TOLEDO, Ohio — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine did not hold his routine Tuesday COVID-19 press briefing at 2 p.m.
Instead, the governor plans to hold a 5:30 p.m. primetime briefing today to discuss the critical stage Ohio is at in fighting COVID-19 as well as its long term impact on the state.
As you might recall, the governor made a similar address in July, where he urged Ohioans to take additional precautions amid a surge of coronavirus cases.
Fast forward to now, cases are once again rising, more people are dying and more people are being hospitalized. The governor is expected to update the state but there’s the possibility he may enact a new health order(s).
“In Ohio, we are seeing an unprecedented spike in hospital utilization and it is impacting all areas of the state. While we are better prepared with personal protective equipment and physical capacity, what we are seeing now is an increasing demand on our staffing,” said Dr. Vanderhoff during Monday’s virus update with health professionals. Normally, the governor would provide new information/an update on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“If we don’t control the spread of this virus, we won’t be able to care for those who are acutely ill without postponing important, but less urgent, care. We anticipate that this kind of shift could happen in a matter of weeks if trends don’t change.”
