Governor Mike DeWine awards $93 million in water infrastructure grants
One Northwest Ohio community is set to benefit from one of those grants.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced the first round of water infrastructure grant funding is set to be awarded as part of a new, statewide initiative to help establish a better quality of life, as well as promote economic growth for Ohio communities.
A total of $250 million in funding will be invested in water infrastructure projects as part of the new Ohio BUILDS initiative. The first round of grants award $93 million to 54 projects that affect communities in 60 Ohio counties. The remaining grants will be awarded in the coming week.
Funds awarded Tuesday will help reduce or eliminate the local financial burden associated with critical infrastructure needs, such as the construction of new water systems, the replacement of aging water lines, and the installation new water mains. Grants will also fund projects to prevent sewer system backups and replace failing household sewage treatment systems with new sewers.
The village of Fayette, right here in Northwest Ohio, will receive a portion of the funding.
