Inside Look: The Believe Center opens doors to renovated gymnasium
The space will now be able to serve the surrounding community better than it has before!
TOLEDO, Ohio — With final touches complete, The Believe Center in Toledo’s Old South End was finally able to welcome the public into its renovated gymnasium!
Monday’s grand opening meant a lot to those who frequent The Believe Center, as they say this cornerstone of the community is worth it, acknowledging the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their important work.
“It’s a nice court though — this is beautiful. For us to get new stuff and more material and what not, COVID has kind of stopped that.”
Meanwhile, Believe Center Executive Director Tonya Duran believes the many kids in the South End who participate in the organization’s programming, will have a greater sense of appreciation — and confidence in themselves.
“There are a lot of the things that the kids are really excited about; they can’t wait to throw that first hoop in the basket,” said Duran.
She says with the sheer amount of basketball programming the organization offers, having this renovated court, thanks to city of Toledo assistance, was overdue and will benefit the neighborhood in more ways than one.
“We also do the midnight run, where the kids stay here from 7 to midnight, enjoy a hot meal, mentoring, and play basketball until midnight every Friday,” she explained.
