Is the pandemic really over? What CDC data shows.
Lucas County is currently dealing with a surge in cases, so we’re not exactly “out of the woods.”
TOLEDO, Ohio — “The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with COVID, we’re still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks, everybody seems to be in pretty good shape, and so I think it’s changing.”
In an interview with CBS’ ’60 Minutes’ yesterday, President Joe Biden claimed the pandemic was over. But is it really?
Well, judging by the CDC data for Lucas County and others across the country, this pandemic is still alive and well. The CDC website shows Lucas County at a ‘high’ level of community transmission, which means that you should be masking up indoors, staying up to date with your vaccinations, of course getting tested if you have symptoms, and taking additional precautions to protect those who may be immunocompromised.
So how will the president’s messaging on Sunday impact booster shot efforts locally? Well, I reached out to two area doctors to answer that question. I’ll keep you posted on their responses.
Meanwhile, one area teen is fighting COVID, after attending a large gathering over the weekend. Corinne Moore, a student at Maumee Valley Country Day School, believes she contracted the virus after attending the school’s homecoming dance on Saturday.
“That honestly sucked. Because it’s the beginning of school and I really didn’t want to miss out, and like I wanted to see my friends, you know. But then I also felt bad, even though it was kind of out of my control, because I was at homecoming, and I was out in public with my mother that morning — but, like, it’s really kind of out of my control,” Moore explained.
For now, she says her focus is on getting rest.
