Jumping In: The GOP’s growing list of candidates ahead of 2024
The water is quite warm in the pool of presidential hopefuls.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The list of Republican contenders for 2024 continues to grow by day.
It’s a list that includes former President Donald Trump, Florida governor Ron DeSantis — Trump’s biggest opponent — as well as his former vice president, Mike Pence, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson, right-wing political commentator Larry Elder, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, former Montana state senator Corey Stapleton, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
But do they have what it takes to beat Donald Trump, who currently leads in the polls? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, it’s evident these candidates are trying.
So far, Pence and Haley have both participated in town halls on CNN, with Christie set to partake in one on Monday.
Pence’s strong stance on parents’ rights was put to the test, as he was pressed on whether or not parents have the right to make decisions regarding gender transition care for their kids. For right now, it looks like Pence will be sticking to the classroom.
Pence wasn’t the only one challenged during his town hall. Haley’s perspective on the war in Ukraine was one that broke with some in the GOP, saying, “this is a war about freedom and it’s one we have to win.”
