Local hospital to receive Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday

TOLEDO, Ohio — Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo will be one of the eight Ohio hospital systems to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, Gov. Mike DeWine said Monday. The governor also announced that the state will track the amount of shots administered on coronavirus.ohio.gov.
Gov. Mike DeWine said geography, population and storage capacity were among the factors in deciding which hospitals will get the vaccine.
Despite this positive news on the vaccine front, Governor Mike DeWine says that people shouldn’t let their guard down and stop wearing masks, as it will take months for the state to reach herd immunity.
“You can be happy for this and celebrate this as you should, but realize it’s going to take a while, it will take months, to reach the herd immunity we’ve been told by the scientists we need to reach,” DeWine said.

Cleveland Clinic, Cuyahoga County
Metro Health Medical Center, Cuyahoga County
Mercy Health Springfield Regional Medical Center, Clark County
OhioHealth Riverside Hospital, Franklin County
Aultman Hospital, Stark County
OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital, Athens County
Genesis Hospital, Muskingum County
Monday, Ohio reported 7,875 cases of COVID-19, 59 new deaths and an additional 291 hospitalizations.
