Local state rep. pushing for creation of state Electric Vehicle Commission

You can watch the story, here.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The first electric vehicle dates back to 1890. Don’t believe me? Well, visit the U.S. Department of Energy’s website for further details.

Now, back to EVs themselves. At a time when efforts to combat climate change are growing, they’ve been offered up as an alternative to traditional fuel options. Which is why states like neighboring Michigan and Indiana have birthed commissions to oversee the growth of electric vehicles in their respective states.

And it’s why State Representative Lisa Sobecki, a Democrat from Toledo, is pushing for Ohio to follow in their footsteps with House Bill 292.

“This would establish a group of folks that are in this industry, to sit around the table and talk about the industry. Because electric vehicles are coming; we just had an amazing announcement at GM Powertrain.”

— State Rep. Lisa Sobecki, (D) Toledo

HB 292 awaits further hearings in the state senate.
