Making more in ’24: Ohio’s minimum wage increases by 35 cents

--

TOLEDO, Ohio — New year, new minimum wage in Ohio. As of Monday, it is the law for non-tipped employees to make $10.45 an hour, an increase of 35 cents. The new minimum for tipped employees is $5.25.

But what employers actually have to abide by the state’s minimum wage law? I’m glad you asked. Businesses that have annual gross receipts of $385,000 will now have to accommodate the change, just as they did previous changes.

Businesses that gross less than that $385,000 are bound by the federal minimum wage of $7.25, which does include 14 and 15-year-old employees.

Since November 2006, Ohio’s minimum wage adjustments have been tied to the consumer price index. That was decided on by voters. Simply put, as the price of goods increase annually, expect wages to increase with them.
