TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, during a press conference this morning, announced who will be serving as the city’s interim police chief, with George Kral set to leave the department on Monday.

Michael Troendle currently serves as the assistant chief, and is a 29-year veteran of the Toledo Police Department. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Crime Analysis from Tiffin University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserves.

During his time with the department, he has worked in field operations, investigations, SWAT, communications, criminal intelligence, and special operations. Troendle is responsible for the implementation of intelligence-led policing, as well as the design, management, and construction of TPD’s Real-Time Crime Center.

Also during today’s press conference, Mayor Kapszukiewicz announced the city of Toledo’s new prosecutor.

Rebecca Facey previously worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney at the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, starting in 2014. She graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law in May of 2014, and also received a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and sciences from DePaul University in June 2004, where she majored in women’s studies.

The search for the city’s new chief is ongoing, and Toledo City Council has allocated $50,000 to aid in the search. And as you may remember, city officials launched a survey to get feedback from residents on what qualities are most important to them in a new chief.
