TOLEDO, Ohio — Wednesday, Ohio’s final Vax-A-Million winners were announced, although this time, none of them were from Northwest Ohio.
Esperanza Diaz of Cincinnati took home the $1 million prize and 13-year-old Sydney Daum of Brecksville will benefit from a full-ride college scholarship to any Ohio college or university of her choice.
“You [Gov. Mike DeWine] congratulated me and was super excited. I’m excited! I couldn’t sleep last night,” Diaz said.
“We were always planning to get her vaccinated, but we were gonna wait until later in the summer to have her fully vaccinated by the time school started. But when you announced the Vax-A-Million lottery, we thought ‘hey, this is a good time to maybe do it now’,” said Jennifer Daum, mother of Sydney Daum.
Since the announcement of Vax-A-Million, vaccinations have skyrocketed, indicating that the incentive was successful, but vaccinations have since decreased following the last few drawings.
