Month passes with no arrest(s) in triple shooting outside Whitmer stadium
Will there ever be an arrest in the case?
TOLEDO, Ohio — It has been, as of Monday, a month since the triple shooting outside Whitmer stadium during a football game. And still, a suspect — or the suspects — remain at large. This is as Washington Local Schools Superintendent Kadee Anstadt voices frustration.
“These are people that are felons, that are arrested, and are released over and over again. And I think part of this is, we have to take this out at its root — which is in the law,” said Anstadt.
Dr. Anstadt says she is pushing for the legislature to pass some common sense reforms.
“I believe that this is a Columbus problem, as much as it is a Toledo problem. This is a Columbus problem where we need to look at legislation that’s sitting down there waiting, I hope, soon to be passed. This is common sense legislation that says: felons shouldn’t have guns. If you’re a violent felon, you should not have access to guns and if you’re caught with one, you should be put away,” Anstadt explained.
And the superintendent says that she will do anything in her power to fight on behalf of these changes.
“The governor’s done a really nice job of reaching out and connecting me with people on the state level,” Anstadt said. “I can tell you that I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that the chief and I, together, will stand and hopefully, at least, make some convincing arguments to the legislature that this is a simple, this is a simple fix.”
Dr. Anstadt notes that while injuries of the two adults and one student weren’t life-threatening, they were surely life-changing.
