Neighborhood Health Association hosts free COVID-19 testing in East Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio — Saturday, the Neighborhood Health Association of Toledo hosted free, no appointment required COVID-19 testing at Mosaic Ministries in Toledo.
As COVID-19 cases rise in Ohio, one person who waited in line to get tested said she’s concerned about her health and wants to ensure that she’s not spreading the virus.
“Really? When you — Real sick and actually die. You know, that’s what my main concern is. I’m not ready to go yet.”
Another individual who waited in line to get tested, and didn’t want to be identified, said that in order to get coronavirus under control in the community, people need to get tested in order to know when they should isolate.
“We need to get a handle on this — we need to get a handle on this. And people obviously need to know if they need to keep their distance or not, I mean. We got to get a handle on this because it doesn’t with the vaccine. I mean, the vaccine is definitely a huge boost, but it’s not the end-all solution. It’s only one big piece of the puzzle.”
An official with the Neighborhood Health Association says that it’s vital to offer coronavirus testing in this Toledo neighborhood, because many people don’t have access to testing and are at high risk for serious complications from the virus.
“Giving people that don’t normally have access and transportation to other testing sites to come to where they live and help them have access to affordable healthcare, and that’s something that NHA has been doing for over 50 years is providing access for people who are less fortunate.”
Another official, this time with Mosaic Ministries, says that getting tested is one way of making decisions in the age of COVID-19.
“Well obviously, COVID’s become a real problem for a lot of people, and so the best we thing we can do is get tested so we know if we have it and what kind of treatment we could need as a result.”
Once the first 100 people got done getting tested, they were offered a free turkey for Thanksgiving.
