ODH: Immunocompromised Ohioans should receive 3rd vaccine dose
Ohio’s top doctor announced the recommendation during a Friday press conference.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Friday, Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff held a virtual press conference, announcing the ODH’s recommendation that immunocompromised Ohioans should receive a third vaccine dose, which Thursday, was approved by the FDA for those who are most susceptible to the virus. The third dose must be of the same manufacturer as the previous dose or doses.
With the highly contagious Delta variant spreading through Ohio and the rest of the country, health officials say the FDA’s approval of a third vaccine dose, along with the ODH’s latest recommendation, is sensible and will help to protect the most vulnerable from variants of the virus, including Delta.
“We still need to get more Ohioans vaccinated if we want to avoid continuing to confront these surges,” said Vanderhoff. “It’s spreading very fast. But you know who it’s spreading among? The unvaccinated. We are not seeing rapid spread of this virus, in fact, this virus appears to spread very rarely among people who are vaccinated.”
