Dr. Patrick Oliver, Ph.D. will serve as a lead consultant to a new office of law enforcement and recruitment, according to Governor Mike DeWine The governor also says he has met with the Ohio Black Caucus to hear the concerns that they have been voicing.

It was announced today that those that want to be police officers will have to undergo psychological exams. The legislature still has to pass this for it to be law.

Gov. DeWine is requesting a database be created for the public to access. He says this move will create “transparency” in law enforcement. Also, the governor wants the legislature to create a standard definition for when force should be used on an individual.

The governor said that “Law enforcement agencies should not be investigating themselves, even if they do a great job.” Him and others believe that there will be bias when those being investigated, are being investigated by themselves.

The Ohio Highway Patrol will now be fitted with body-cams. DeWine says he is aware of the expenses that come with new equipment for law enforcement. He created a new board for further investigation and oversight.
