One week until *primary* Election Day in Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio — We are now a week away from Ohio’s primary election, but early voting is happening right now — and to assist you in doing that — I’ve got a rundown of what you’ll see on the ballot.
Beginning with the U.S. Senate race, expect the candidates to be familiar faces. On the Democratic side of the aisle, incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown, who has continued to run on a pro-worker platform.
On the other side, three options for those who consider themselves Republican to choose from. Secretary of State Frank LaRose, State Senator Matt Dolan, and luxury car salesman Bernie Moreno have all made border security a central issue in their campaigns.
As far as endorsements go, Moreno has gotten one from former President Trump — who has proven to be a powerhouse in the party — as well as current Ohio Republican Senator JD Vance. LaRose’s biggest endorsement may just be Ohio Right to Life, while Dolan received a powerful endorsement from the mayor of East Palestine, a city still seeing the impact of 2023’s Norfolk Southern train derailment.
The other big race on the ballot: the race for the White House. President Joe Biden, former President Trump, and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley have to gain support from a politically polarized America, while two of the candidates — Biden and Trump — face concerns over their age.
Having spent some time in a few courtrooms in the last year, Trump has used his legal troubles as a fundraising plea. While Biden, who faces pressure from young voters, in particular, over his response to the Israel-Hamas war, not too long ago canceled $1.2 billion in student loan debt — another big issue for the voters of younger generations.
Now with those candidates and their issues being covered, here are the hours to early vote if you plan on doing so. If you intend to vote today, you can do so until 8:30. On Election Day, the hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and you must cast your ballot at your local precinct, which can be found through your county’s board of elections website.
