Popular, local radio show makes surprising move to new home
PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Imagine getting into your car one day to find out that your favorite radio station and local morning show were. Currently, if you tune into 103.3, you’ll hear static. ‘Party 103.3’ is no more. However, the local radio show ‘Andrew Z and Demetrius In The Morning’ hasn’t gone anywhere.
“Well, the owner of The Wolf, 107.7 The Wolf- it’s a heritage station, it’s the number two country station in the market, big opportunity. He’s getting older, he’s pushing 70. And he said, ‘You know what? I just want to get on a plane whenever I want and just go out of town.’ He goes, ‘I just wanna live the rest of my life, I just am chained to the radio station.’ And I said, well, let me take care of that for you,” said Andrew Zepeda, morning show host, now on 107.7 The Wolf.
Thus, marked the beginning of the end for Party 103.3, which in addition to being the home of Andrew Z and Demetrius In The Morning, offered top 40 mixed with hits of the 90’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s. Zepeda says while it’s a change, it’s a change for the better.
“I know people don’t know what watts are, but it’s going from 160 watts to 3,500 watts, to where that’s 20, 30 times bigger. You can pick us up from Sandusky to Adrian to Put-in-Bay. It just gives us a lot more opportunity than when we were on Party 103.3, where it was just more of the metro area and you couldn’t get outside of that area,” Zepeda explained.
And being aired on a new station with higher wattage and difference of transmitter location meant Zepeda had to upgrade his home studio. And because The Wolf’s a longtime country station, he encourages people to give it a try. But if that’s just not your taste, he emphasizes that on his show from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays, there isn’t even music in the first place. And once that’s over, you can switch to your jams. So far, he says, longtime 107.7 listeners have responded well.
“People like familiar, they like to come back to know what they love and trust. And I think that that’s what we kind of provide for them. Demetrius and I have been doing this almost 20 years in this market together and then apart — but know we’re back together and it’s awesome.”
If you’re missing the sound of Party 103.3, there are alternatives. iHeart’s top 40 hits station 92.5 KISS FM and Cumulus’ Q105.5, which boasts 90’s, 2000’s, and now.
