Replacement of Central Ave. bridge over the Ottawa River to begin in March
The project’s start date is subject to change.
TOLEDO, Ohio — How about another major bridge project for 2023!
The Ohio Department of Transportation will be replacing the Central Avenue bridge over the Ottawa River, starting tentatively on March 6th. It’s expected to be a 150-day closure, and according to ODOT, the current bridge was built in 1928 and widened in 1975.
The Lucas County Engineer’s Office says the bridge is functionally obsolete. The new bridge will have four driving lanes, a center-turn lane, a sidewalk on the south side, and a multi-use path on the north side.
The recommended detour is taking Secor Road to I-475 and then 475 around to Central Ave.
Officials say the start date of the project could change, which is why you’re encouraged to follow ODOT District 2 on social media.
