TOLEDO, Ohio — You know the feeling: calls from an unknown number, which you answer because they could be important, just to be greeted by a robotic voice that may not even get your name right. Why won’t these calls go away? I mean, it seems like every other week we hear of something new that’s being done, but yet, the phone’s ringing off the hook.

Unfortunately for all of us, the chances of these calls going away completely aren’t really there. So, what is Ohio’s attorney general doing about it? And if that’s not enough, what can you do about it?

Well, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, on top of establishing a unit to investigate violators and push legislation that promotes less of these robocalls, a website’s been created to report them and a settlement was made with one violator to pay up, which also blocks their calls made with the use of spoofing technology.

And because the legal process takes time, think about how long it will take before all these violators are held accountable. That’s why you’re going to have to take action yourself. Whether that’s registering your number on the national Do Not Call List, which prevents legitimate telemarketing calls, investing in a robocall-blocking app, or consulting your wireless carrier’s in-house services. All options that you may consider helpful.
