State of Ohio launches “Safe at Home” program
The program will be discussed during a press conference set for 2 p.m. with officials from the YWCA of Northwest Ohio.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The state of Ohio has launched “Safe at Home”, a program created to assist victims of domestic violence, stalking, human trafficking, rape, or sexual battery, by concealing their identity from public record, while allowing them to participate in democratic processes such as voting.
Program participants are assigned an alternative address, which will be determined by the Secretary of State’s Office. The program also allows participants who are eligible to vote to register without his/her voter registration record appearing in public voter registration lists, and to vote absentee without his/her address being compromised.
Victims must apply in person to participate in the program, only through a certified application assistant. An application assistant is defined as an employee or volunteer at a state-certified agency or organization that serves victims of domestic violence, menacing by stalking, human trafficking, trafficking in persons, rape, or sexual battery.
