Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure held in downtown Toledo
The event brought thousands together in downtown Toledo.

TOLEDO, Ohio — This morning, the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure was held in downtown Toledo. The event is held annually, except for in 2020 due to the pandemic, but continues to inspire breast cancer survivors and raise awareness. The event raises money for breast cancer research and those who attend year after year all have a reason for why they do so.
“I know so many beautiful women who have been affected by this [breast cancer],” said Diana Patton, who was running to support breast cancer survivors and honor those who were lost to the disease. “I just kept saying ‘I’m tired and oh my God’, but I kept thinking about them going through this. So, that’s what my motivation is.”
Sharon Nedolast says her daughter is a decade-long breast cancer survivor and that is why Nedolast and her daughter continue to participate in this event.
“My daughter is a 10-year survivor and that motivates me, because she’s here with friends and her two children,” said Sharon Nedolast, who attended today’s race. “And it’s the 10th year anniversary for her, so I’m very motivated to be here to support her.”
Health experts advise women every year to get screened, as it could save a life or many lives. And that’s a sentiment Nedolast can attest to.
“It’s important to do your self checks, and find it early. Because she may not be here today if that had not happened for her, so be aware of it,” Nedolast explains.
Many here today say they will be back next year.
“I definitely will be out here either running or walking,” Patton says.
“Good willing,” said Nedolast.
Attendance for this year’s event is down from previous years, but that can be blamed in-part due to the pandemic.
