TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo is coming off of a deadly weekend. On Saturday, three gun-related deaths occurred, from west Toledo to east Toledo.

The first call came in around 3 a.m. on Hoiles Avenue with the report of a shooting, another around 3:30 p.m. on Platt Street, and another a little after 5 p.m. on Grantley Road.

So with these three gun deaths having occurred within the span of 24 hours, how is our faith community, which I covered in the past, responding to the need for change? For one, members of the ministry ‘Acts 2 Fellowship’ spent Sunday afternoon praying at the Mott Branch Library.

“What God had given me was to take this into the neighborhoods. It’s good for us to pray down at government center, but we need to go into our neighborhoods, so that’s what brings us here today in Smith Park,” said Antoinette Goodloe of the ministry Acts 2 Fellowship. “We will continue to fight this spiritual warfare with prayer.”

Goodloe adds that her efforts have been focused on faith and keeping our elected officials in prayer, even though she hasn’t been in contact with them yet.

Meanwhile, the city of Toledo, back in August, announced an expansion of what was formerly known as its violence interrupter program to the Lagrange Street corridor, as well as East Toledo this fall.

The Platt Street and Hoiles Avenue homicides I mentioned earlier remain unsolved. Anyone with information is asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419–255–1111.
