Stericycle letter (Jaden Jefferson)

TOLEDO, Ohio — State Representatives Lisa Sobecki, Paula Hicks-Hudson, and Mike Sheehy, Monday, sent a letter to Stericycle President and CEO Cindy J. Miller, pushing the company to continue negotiations with employees of the Toledo facility who have been on strike since early October.

Here’s the letter, in its entirety.

Dear Ms. Miller,

We write today to express our support for the striking workers at the Stericycle Toledo Facility. Over the past few weeks, we have spoken with the workers on the picket line about their concerns and encourage you to continue to negotiate with the workers and their bargaining unit in good faith.

The striking employees of Stericycle are exercising a legal right that has existed for over 80 years and have serious concerns over healthcare costs. We acknowledge that the COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for both the management and employees of Stericycle, yet it is possible that a path forward both parties can agree on is achievable.

Negotiations between two parties can be contentious at times. We believe that each side is entitled to having their concerns discussed. Furthermore, strikes are often a last resort when stark disagreements exist, and are in this case necessary. A full and good faith negotiation is the only way to amicably resolve the dispute and we encourage you to return to the table and engage in good faith negotiations with the striking workers.

Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to your response.

Stericycle, according to the company’s website, is a business-to-business services company and provider of compliance-based solutions that protect people and brands, promote health and well-being, and safeguard the environment.
