Toledo boxer Oshae Jones takes home bronze medal
The boxer has a lot to be proud of leaving Tokyo.
TOKYO — Local boxer Oshae Jones’ momentous run in the Olympics came to an end today, taking home a bronze medal after losing the women’s welterweight semifinal to Gu Hong of China. The judges scored 4-1 against Jones.
She leaves Tokyo with two wins and one loss. This is the first Olympic medal for the 23-year-old Toledo boxer, who has overcome so much.
In May, a late-night fire at her home destroyed $10,000 worth of boxing equipment and almost everything she had. But that tragedy didn’t stop her from competing on the international stage.
“I will go down in history for @teamusa!,” Jones tweeted.
