TOLEDO, Ohio — “They say money talks,” said Toledo City Council Member Cerssandra McPherson.

And for that very reason, council contributed $10,000 to the current amount of reward money that will be given to the individual that provides a tip leading to an arrest or the arrests of the individual or individuals responsible for the death of 10-year-old Damia Ezell.

A black Dodge Charger pulled up to the car Ezell and her father were riding in on Collingwood Boulevard, then the person inside proceeded to fire bullets into the car, wounding Damia, which eventually resulted in her death.

“Hopefully, with this additional $10,000 added to the reward, somebody will speak up,” McPherson added.

The Toledo Police Department’s Crime Stoppers unit is accepting tips via talk or text. Simply dial 419–255–1111. You can remain anonymous.

During my conversation with McPherson, I also asked for her thoughts on the resignation of JoJuan Armour, commissioner of the Mayor’s Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence.

“I’m frustrated. I have spoken with JoJuan and I understand some of the issues or problems that he has had dealing with the administration,” she said.

McPherson points out that the work of reducing gun violence isn’t for everybody, as it is difficult and unpopular.

“You’re trying to do a work — and it is an unusual work. It’s not a regular 8 to 5 job. It’s not a very popular job,” McPherson explained.

It is believed by Council Member John Hobbs (D-4) that city leadership failed Armour, who exits his position on March 11th.
