Toledo City Council discusses Traffic Camera Enforcement Program on Tuesday, December 1st. (Jaden Jefferson)

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo City Council has approved a plan to reinstate the Traffic Camera Enforcement Program.

Council approved the plan in a 8–4 vote that did not come without controversy.

Council members Komives, Gadus, McPherson, & Preston-Whitman voted against the reinstatement of the Redflex cameras.

Local activist Julian Mack has been a frequent critic of the cameras as well as other Toledo residents, because they believe the cameras are nothing but a money grab.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled against the program back in June, because the court believed it wasn’t fair for an officer to handle the appeals process for tickets given out by their department.

The cameras will begin operating again on April 1st of 2021 and if you’re caught speeding, you must pay a fine of $120 through the court system — not the police.
