Toledo Fire & Rescue Dept. awarded $2 million to hire 10 additional firefighters

The money was awarded through a “SAFER” grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Fire & Rescue Department announced via Facebook that it has been awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant to the tune of of $2,943,840.00.

The funding was awarded via a grant application through the Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program.

The SAFER grant is intended to help fire departments increase staffing levels in order for them to respond to emergencies more effectively, and safely. The Toledo Fire & Rescue class of fire recruits scheduled to begin in April 2021 is funded by a budget that supports 40 fire recruits.
