TOLEDO, Ohio — Israel launched its war on the militant group Hamas back on October 7th, after the group attacked Israel. I’ve since covered how that day wasn’t the start of tensions in the region. In the months since, the position the U.S. has taken publicly seems to remain unchanged. Here are the remarks President Biden delivered about Israel on October 7th:

“We will not ever fail to have their [Israel’s] back.”

“My administration’s support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.”

Note that Biden’s remarks weren’t groundbreaking. The U.S., since the late 40’s, has called Israel a friend — while stopping at supporting Palestine becoming its own state. However, The New York Times reported back in November 2023 that the president advocated for a two-state solution at the conclusion of this war. And, recently, one of his cabinet members — Secretary of State Antony Blinken — reiterated that.
