Trick-or-treat event held at UAW Local 12 on Ashland Avenue
The event is held annually and union leaders say the community benefits deeply from it.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Sunday evening, a trick-or-treat event was held at the UAW Local 12 on Ashland Avenue in Toledo.
The rain, of course, might have put a damper on the event, but those who did attend were happy to be part of it.
And union officials say it’s important to be involved in the community.
“It kind of brings our union family together,” said Marcia Young, Chair of the UAW Local 12 Women’s Committee.
“This event is very important. We love the community, the children. The union is the community,” said Sherese Williamson, Secretary of UAW Local 12.
At Sunday’s event, there was no shortage of cars decked-out with Halloween-themed decorations, as well as kids happy to get in the Halloween spirit.
“It’s cool because you’ve been stuck in the house for such a long time. It’s good to get out and do stuff, other than sit in the house,” said Cyanna.
Cyanna’s younger sister, Miya, agrees.
“Yeah, I like it,” said Miya.
UAW Local 12 Women’s Committee Chair Marcia Young says that this event gives the kids something to look forward to, and she says her committee is always in awe of how many people show up year after year.
“When we had our first, first one, we were bombarded. We sent people out 4 different times to get more candy and everything, because we just were not expecting the power and just how much they came in,” said Young.
UAW Local 12 Secretary Sherese Williamson says the union isn’t done helping the community just yet.
“We will have a Christmas drive thru, a winter wonderland. For Easter, we’ll be having something drive thru as well, for COVID reasons,” said Williamson.
