U.S. Surpasses 5 Million Coronavirus Cases; 160,000 Deaths
Experts worry the midwest is the next part of the country to be devastated by the widespread coronavirus disease.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The United States has surpassed 5,000,000 COVID-19 cases. The president claims that cases are declining and he insists the virus is under control, it’s not. Over 160,000 are dead due to the pandemic that hit the U.S. harder than most countries.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that schools have the approval and have met the requirements to reopen in the fall. Even though New York schools are reopening, it doesn’t mean that others are. In fact, in Lucas County, schools will continue with online learning until October 1st, when the health department reassess the situation. The county has an 11% COVID-19 positivity rate, when it should be at or below 5%. This makes Lucas County the second highest county in the state for the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Health officials are urging people to socially distance and wear masks if not possible. With the positivity rate being so high, it is still recommended to reduce the amount of travel residents due on a daily basis, of course, if possible.
Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana are seeing an uptick in COVID-19 infections and deaths. “Every country has suffered. We, the United States, has suffered … as much or worse than anyone,”, Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN. “I mean when you look at the number of infections and the number of deaths, it really is quite concerning,” he added.
