TOLEDO, Ohio — Last Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris released her plan for the economy, a top issue for voters this election. And just a day before, former President Trump emphasized his already-released economic policy, something prominent allies say he should prioritize over personal attacks against Harris.

Comparing the two’s plans for the economy, it becomes immediately clear that bringing down high prices and addressing their impact on Americans is the central sell. Prosecuting this case is a bit harder for the Harris campaign, however, as COVID-spurred inflation hit not-too-long after President Biden took office.

According to a post on X, the VP’s plan is to provide tax relief for new parents (up to $6,000 for newborns), and for each additional child, $3,600. And at a time when home prices are through the roof (no pun intended), the Harris plan is to provide $25,000 to help cover the down payment on a new home. The final aspect of her three-pronged plan is to crack down on price-gouging, which becomes common during inflation, as some can charge more under the guise of it.

Moving on to the Trump economic plan (also the GOP platform), it calls for lifting restrictions on American energy production, slashing government spending, and cracking down on illegal immigration, which costs the U.S. $150.7 per year, according to a Federation for American Immigration Reform testimony before the House Budget Committee. Trump’s running mate, Ohio U.S. Senator J.D. Vance, has also called for the child tax credit to be “bigger” (something Democrats have more-so advocated for, but appears to be gaining traction across the aisle).

Additionally, both share this policy stance: eliminating taxes on tips (something Trump proposed first and Harris then followed with). Here’s the link to my report on the downsides of this proposal.
