There’s concern over a post-Thanksgiving surge in COVID-19 cases
The state of Ohio reported 17,065 total new cases from Thursday to Friday.
TOLEDO, Ohio — Thanksgiving has passed, but its impacts on Ohio’s coronavirus cases will outlast November 26th.
Health officials are concerned that people who refuse to follow guidance set forth by local health departments will ultimately lead to increased hospitalizations for hospitals that are running out of room, and doctors & nurses who can’t seem to catch a break.
Mercy Health — Lima President Ronda Lehman: “Right now, about a third of our in-patient census is COVID patients. And we are maxed-out with the number of patients right now — in house, in patient that we even saw probably at our peak all of last winter, so definitely concerning.”
Meanwhile, The latest Ohio Public Health Advisory System map shows Wood County could potentially go “purple” as early as next week.
Almost every county in the state is in the “red”, with few remaining in the “orange” and none in the “yellow”.
Governor Mike DeWine will hold a briefing Tuesday to update the public on the state’s response to COVID-19, including the latest data.
